Diesel Leather Analog Blue Dial Men Watch-Dz4641, Brown Band

From all I’d seen, Diesel watches were always ‘in your face’ with oversized cases and/or too much going on on their dials. Their Cliffhanger range breaks this stereotype. For the best. The chronograph model DZ4641 (blue dial with a brown leather belt) was the most appealing. I also follow a general rule of buying only one watch per brand, to check my buying impulses – so this will be it for Diesel in my collection.

I checked and rechecked the case size before I made the purchase. I wouldn’t want a ‘Diesel tank’ (pun intended) on my wrist!

The watch is powered by a Miyota JS16 Series quartz chronograph movement and features a full stainless steel case. With case width at 40mm (43mm with the crown) and thickness at around 12mm, it wears very well on my 7.25″ wrist, doesn’t feel oversized, yet exudes a very macho appearance.

The case is finished in gun-metal brown with brushed and polished surfaces, housing a midnight blue, sunburst dial that steps down vertically between 1 & 5 hours. The slope bears the Diesel brand name flanked by two white bars. Hour and minute markers are also in contrasting white. I specially like the Arabic numeral 3, raised to the level of the higher dial surface. The dark brown leather belt blends well with the case (while providing good contrast to the dial) – 18mm at the lugs flaring out to 30mm to follow the outer edges of the watch lugs and tapering to 25mm at the man-sized, gun-metal branded buckle. I also like the crown which sports a polished, raised Diesel logo on a matte base, giving the entire package a premium look. The crystal is mineral, so those using it everyday or in tough conditions, will have to take care. The date window is at 4 o’clock position.

This watch does have a few cons :

Sub-dial pointers for 24-hour indication and chronograph seconds match the dial so they get lost in the background. Senseless!

Reading the time may take a little getting used to as just the tips of the minute and hour pointers are with lume, (appearing white in daylight) with the remaining sections of these two pointers also dark blue requiring one to search out the pointer tips.

The large ‘lance-shaped’ seconds pointer entirely covers the minute/hour pointers when it travels over them. At those points, you cannot read the time without literally waiting for a couple of seconds.

The hour, minute, seconds and chronograph-minute pointers are lumed. The last is quite unnecessary.

I observed these shortcomings after buying and wearing the watch. However, I had followed my heart on this one, so there would be no returning it.

That’s how this Diesel watch finally found its way to my collection. And I am really glad!
