Must have if there is a diabetic patient at your house. This is so user friendly, now my mother is able to use it on her own. Just loved this product. Now, we don’t need to run to the doctors everytime we need to measure the sugar level of my father and can be performed in just simple steps at home.

I had been using a previous Model of ACCU-CHEK Active glucometer since 2010. In this model which I have just purchased now, the opening of the battery compartment shown in the accompanying photograph is not smooth at all and requires application of pressure. The plastic part which clicks shut to keep the battery compartment covered is a very flimsy plastic part and I am afraid after a few uses of opening and closing the cover in order to remove and replace an old battery, the part may break. Though the instrument is electrically all right, the mechanical robustness is definitely lacking. I expect some explanation of this drawback and some action on your part. The earlier model that I had used was much more robust.

At the price of Rs.880, the product does what is is meant to do. The overall product comes with a case to keep everything required for oneself to proceed with a blood sugar test. Though the casing is cheap, it does the job perfectly. The only drawback is there are only 10strips and 10needles which is beinf peovided alongside the machine. You will have to buy them additionally through some medical shops or by amazon itself. They cost around Rs.1300 for 50strips and 50needles. The sugar level indicated on the machine seems to be accurate but a bit away from the actual reading. Try performing atleast 3 tests at once to calxulate the average blood glucose value and it should be your actual blood glucose value. The machine can also be connected with the computer to take a look on previous readings and it could be shared with your medical personnel. Overall, this is a good product to buy.

As a medical provider in a hospital I use glucomters all the time. I purchased this for a family member. It is nice and compact with carry case that has storage. Directions are easy to follow but the actual equipment is designed poorly. The lancet pen tends to misfire and often jams at the lid when loading. The machine makes you put a test strip in then take it out to collect blood and return it. I’ve timed it and it only gives you 10 seconds to remove the strip, collect blood, and reinsert strip. To do this you must prick your finger, prepare a blood sample, then insert the strip, remove, collect blood, and reinsert. For most people it requires another person to help. Also, because the blood collection area is in the middle of the strip the actual meter gets blood on the sensor and case every time you remove the bloody strip. This is an infection risk. The lancets and strips are very easy to get even at local pharmacies, however no one carries the glucose testing solutions- not even online I am finding. You are required to run a control test every time you open a new bottle of strips or if you question a result. That is the only way to ensure your results are accurate, however this is set up to make you run blood sugars without verifying the results are correct. This is very dangerous. For some people this machine works well, however I am purchasing a different more user friendly machine to use.
